Kalyug’s Haven

Time lines, budgets, Targets….Ooohhhh! ... All threatening to crack that fragile balance between sanity and insanity. And finally dawns the much awaited weekend. But the madness, in a different form prevails even during the weekends, with the chart topper in weekend mania being “Pubbing”. Gulp! Gulp!, goes liquid cash down the throat with pulsating sounds around and a fantasy ambience.

An illustration of this madness would be the recent experience of my friend (herewith referred to as “I” – for simplicity). My guess as to what instigated this event was the gorgeous babe he managed to find himself.

The very entry into the wonder world, with party animals - all set for a fashion show/ fancy dress competition (or at least I felt so) - was an utter sensory shock. But the feel of pleasure prevails with the company of a beautiful damsel by your side. The overall perception: loud, energetic and definitely different.

Soon into a comfy corner, I was browsing the list of available beverages and eateries in the leather bound volume thrust into my hands. Though educated regarding the high prices in a pub, the list seemed too be much to digest. The prices definitely belonged to Jupiter.

Well it was something like this:

30 ml of white liquid made from sugar cane, grown in a special breed of Bat’s excretion – 300 bucks
A large peg i.e. 60 ml of the same would cost you 550 bucks, entitling you to a discount of 50 bucks on that double order.

A mug of Carbonated Barley water costs 70 bucks.
A pitcher of the same 280.

Well the cost of stored grape juice varies from 300 to 1400 bucks (the max I could recollect) depending on the Label’s goodwill.

And so on…

After a quick glance, I graciously passed on the same to my partner of the evening. Without even the slightest of hesitation, she said, “One Bloody Mary”. Hmm wondered what that was? (I mean I personally felt it was sacrilege)

Soon, I realized I missed the continuation of the strange list – Cocktails n Mock tails. And my lady ordered one among them. Though my finger ran over the names, my eye balls ran on the price. Already, I started feeling I should have nothing but water (which also pains my purse). Well, with a lady at your side and on a Saturday evening in the Kalyug’s Haven, you can’t think of all this.

I ordered Bacardi, with some stupid sparkling sweet carbonated water. My companion continued with one more cocktail and ended up with two shots of Tequila. Well, I overheard some one say “Tequila - Helping Women Lower Their Standards for Years” And here I see my lady already on her toes on the dance floor with moves and grooves unexpected. And cares who? Every one is in the same high.

Well the evening in “The Pub”, for the few ml of the liquid and the music had a price tag of Rs 1800/- and the efforts to drop a semiconscious person back to her den. The music, the experience, the company, the feel - every thing was good. Though the cost did not mean it was my last visit to a pub, I was wondering what makes people shell out so much and so frequently and make it the Kalyug’s Haven to the present youth.
